Be My Santa DOOM?

Santa Doom

Dear friends,

For the last couple of years, I didn’t really ask much when I posted my Christmas wish lists. In fact, I was only serious about the iPod. I got it, by the way. I named him Molesto. He says hi.

This year, I want everything my shallow, shallow heart desires. I need you to be my Santa DOOM.

TV Show and Movie DVDs

You can give me anything that’s not on my Listal Owned DVD list for obvious reasons. I can’t give you a specific title that I badly want right now, so you can just run with the fact that I like movies and TV shows with explosions and zombies. Also, I love DVDs with tons of extras.

Baddie, Statler and Waldorf on My Chemical Romance’s Desolation Row

So I was listening to the Watchmen soundtrack, totally enjoying tracks like “The Times They Are A-Changin’” by Bob Dylan, “All Along The Watchtower” by Jimi Hendrix, and “I’m Your Boogie Man” by K.C. And The Sunshine Band. And then I heard My Chemical Romance’s version of “Desolation Row” and I was like “What the eff is this shit?”

I know it’s a way for the soundtrack to somehow connect with the kids, but I wish they used another band to cover the song or they could’ve just used the original. Heck, it would’ve been awesome if they remastered or remixed the Grateful Dead version. Like all Bob Dylan songs, the beauty of “Desolation Row” lies in the lyrics. You can’t really appreciate the song if you can’t understand the lyrics, can you? And let’s face it, all you can hear in MCR’s cover is SHOUTING. Lots and lots of shouting. Am I right, Statler and Waldorf?

Top 5 Lists #9 of 10: Graphic Fiction

This entry is part 9 of 10 in the series Top 5 Lists

Yeah, Graphic Fiction is just a glorified term for comics, but who cares? We can even call it Graphic Literature. Meh. I started reading comics way back in 1994. Or was it 1993? Whatever. The point is, I’ve been a comic book geek for more than a decade now and I’ve read a lot of the best that the industry can offer. As a true fan of the medium, it’s hard to pick just 5 great pieces of comic book goodness from the dozens of stories I’ve read, but I managed to do it.

#5: Identity Crisis – It’s probably the most disturbing superhero story I’ve ever read. Also, the most touching. Written by Brad Meltzer, this spandex drama involves rape, murder, witch hunts, triumph, and great loss. One gripe I have about it, though, is that Superman cries. Again.

#4: Y: The Last Man – Although I’ve only read the first three volumes of the collected editions, I still hold it in the highest regards. It doesn’t involve superheroes, but it does involve a global catastrophe, a reluctant everyman hero, a monkey, and lesbians. I can’t wait to read the rest of the story. Curse local comic shops for not having copies of volumes 4 onwards! Bah.
