uplb grass

I don’t think that blurb makes sense either. Sorry?

Writer’s block is still kicking my ass, so I’m resorting to stealing now. Well, not exactly stealing. See, I’m going to repost something I wrote 4 years ago. Something I submitted to the editors of Peyups. Something they published, hence something I draw great pride from. This is eLBi Life, my supposed “love letter” to UPLB (please excuse the Taglish):

febfair 2008

It was that time of the year again. It was time for UPLB Alumni to leave all their woes in the big city and go through Friday traffic en route to that small magical town at the foot of a mystical mountain. It was time for us to come home to the grass and the stars. It was the last night of UPLB FebFair 2008. And it was glorious.

I had my doubts, though. I was thinking “Fuck, I’m old. And I’m gonna feel much older when I go back. It’s going to take a miracle for me to enjoy the hell out of this night. Huhu.” But I was wrong. Nostalgia aside, going back to UPLB still feels like coming back home. Beer tastes better. Time is immaterial. The grass is green and the girls are pretty. Dammit, it’s Paradise City.

Birthday Recap

9 comments - Post a comment

Like I said in my birthday post, I felt my 26th birthday will be a whole lot better than my 25th because first, there’s no stupid big-ass typhoon kicking our country’s ass. And second, I planned on ending my 3 1/2 months of sobriety. I managed to do that but not in the way I expected. But nevertheless, it was ended and I’m a ridiculously happy camper. YAY!

“You cannot contribute anything to the ideal condition of mind and heart known as Brotherhood, however much you preach, posture, or agree, unless you live it.” ~ Faith Baldwin

We’re all probably aware by now of the tragic fate that befell Cris Mendez. The blogosphere has already presented all the emotions expected to come out of this senseless death. I pretty much share the same sentiments and I feel that everything that needs to be said has been said, and all that needs to be done has been… well, said. There’s one idea that rubs me the wrong way, though. And it comes from my favorite senator: the incomparable Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago.

From Inquirer.net:

“I am so furious. I am going to fight for a bill to abolish fraternities and sororities. As far as I’m concerned, from my experience in UP Diliman for four years in the College of Law, these fraternities do not aid the academic tradition of the University. They are nothing but elitist enclaves,” she told reporters.

I’ll have to firmly disagree with you on this one, Madame Senator.

Friday morning while at work, I started preparing my new account at Page.ph for the eventual yupielbi.com migration. Since the connection at the office was like a snail on downers, backing up all yupielbi.com files was a whole day affair. Backing up the database was also a pain. But I managed to finish everything before the end of the workday. Yay!

At home, I did another backup of the files and the database. I’m OC like that. Thankfully, the connection was pretty okay so I got the chance to dick around the web a lot while doing the backups. Around midnight, I started the whole migration thing. It took me almost 10 hours to set up yupielbi.com, now yupielbi.org, at the new host. Complete with updating all relevant links on several sites and services, including Friendster, Feedburner, Google Analytics, Technorati, etc. It was all worth it. I needed to get away from Philhosting.net as soon as possible. The frequent downtimes were simply unacceptable.
