The trailer for The Avengers — the only movie coming out in 2012 as far as I’m concerned — has been unleashed and the Internet has exploded! Even if the trailer contains a lot of scenes we’ve already seen via official promo images or crappy unofficial photos, the fact that it’s the trailer for the biggest Marvel movie so far is enough to give people a multiple-hour fangasm. If you haven’t seen it yet, what’s wrong with you?
And now, here are the scenes from the trailer that caught my attention:

These army boys look like they’re shooting at either something that’s flying (a Skrull ship, maybe?) or something that’s really huge. Judging from the lasers in the latter part of the trailer, it’s probably a ship.

After seeing Captain America: The First Avenger, I realized that I have yet to establish a top 10 list of my favorite comic book movies. I already did a similar list with Coco Collantes and Bim Barbieto via Cinemabuzz, Face Rockery and Comicology, but that was 3 years ago. A lot of comic book movies have already been released since then. Besides, that 3-part list had rankings based on the votes of 3 nerds. I want a list that is completely based on my own flawed taste in films.

As a big fan of comic book movies — even the dumbest ones — I had a hard time putting together this list but I managed to do it. Ironically, the movie that inspired me to do this (the aforementioned Cap movie) didn’t make the list. LOL? Do take note that I do not categorize movies based on whether they are good or bad. I categorize movies according to how amusing they are. Which means whichever movie you think will be on top of this list, YOU ARE WRONG. And now, without further ado, here are my top 10 comic book movies with ratings and color commentary courtesy of DOOM.

Pick-up lines, even the funniest and most charming ones, never worked for me. Must be my creepy aura. Anyhoo, I’m wondering what pick-up lines superheroes are using to get some. Here’s what my perfectly normal and totally not perverse mind came up with:

Mr. Fantastic, Stretchy Leader of the Fantastic Four

I’ve been defying my limit of comic book purchases per week for the last 3 weeks, and it feels so good. I do expect to cut down on some of the titles after Secret Invasion and Final Crisis. I’m starting to really despise big “events”. Bah. Now, onto the reviews!

X-Factor Special: Layla Miller – This one-shot made me regret not picking up the Quicksilver special, thinking that it was just as awesome as this one. Peter David gives us a depressing but oftentimes funny peek into one possible future where Layla has been trapped since Messiah Complex, and it’s a very good read.

Before we get into the reviews, here’s a short message from Dr. Doom:
DOOM: Behold! The new Emperor of Twitter: VICTOR VON DOOM! Follow DOOM on Twitter lest you feel his wrath! DOOM COMMANDS IT!
Thank you, Mr. Emperor of Twitter. Now, on to the reviews!

Uncanny X-Men #500 – I had great expectations for this issue, and that probably explains why I’m disappointed. Maybe there was just too much going on and it felt like an extra-sized preview book. Maybe it’s the distracting art. I don’t know. Don’t get me wrong, I love Terry Dodson’s art and I don’t hate Greg Land’s “lightbox style”, but they just don’t mix, is all I’m saying.
