This entry is part 8 of 10 in the series Top 5 Lists

For this post, I’m going tech geeky on you folks. I’ve been in love with WordPress and its multitude of plug-ins ever since I first tried to be cool by creating my own WordPress-powered blog. So for this Top 5 Lists post, I’m going to give you my top 5 favorite WordPress plug-ins. Yeah, the stuff that the blogger in me can’t live without.

#5: Admin Dropdown Menu - It may seem useless at first, but when it’s crunch time and you need to go to a lot of different places in your WordPress administration panel, Admin Dropdown Menu saves you a lot of clicks and time. Seriously, it makes using the admin side a lot more easy and efficient.

#4: WordPress Database Backup - Another seemingly “redundant” plug-in since you can just go into whatever software you’re using to manage your database to back it up, but like Admin Dropdown Menu, this makes things easier. You can do the backup right in the admin side and you can choose which tables you can backup in addition to the core database WordPress tables. Sweet.

This entry is part 1 of 10 in the series Top 5 Lists

I love lists, and this is why for 10 blog posts, I’m going to share my top 5 lists of stuff. And I’m going to start with my Top 5 applications on my Windows machine. Yeah, Windows can suck in hundreds of ways, but beggars can’t be choosers, right? Well, unless when I’m at work where I use a Mac. Mmmm… a Maaaac.

#5: Yahoo! Messenger - These days, I won’t be able to live without an Internet connection (OK, that’s an exaggeration, but you know what I mean), and I can’t have my Intarnetz without Yahoo!’s instant messaging client, Yahoo! Messenger. It serves as my primary form of communication with friends, co-workers, and creepy strangers. Being on the Internet just looking at porn sites can be so lonely, so an occasional chat (or even a whole day conference) with friends can make the emptiness of cyberspace a little bit warmer.

#4: EditPad Lite - This is a free text editor that I use as a Notepad replacement. I don’t do a lot of (OK, I don’t do any) programming on my Windows machine, so I just use a text editor as a “buffer” for ideas and a container where I dump seemingly useless text that may become useful as I go about my business. EditPad Lite has a lot of features not present in Notepad, but its tab feature alone makes it worth the quick download for me.

After pulling my hair out with WordPress‘ export and import features (there might have been some issues with the export feature and my previous host, but I don’t give a shit anymore), I decided to get my hands dirty and move my blog to a new host by interfacing directly with the database. It wasn’t pretty, but I managed to make the move without losing data. I rule!

So from this moment on, ladies and freaks, bigbaddie.com is where it’s at. Not entirely sure what “it” is, but it’s here, ‘yo. So for you lovely souls linking to my old URL, I beg you to update your links with my new URL. I’ll owe you a cookie. And as for the new visitors of this attention whore blog, ’sup?

Comic Collector Live is a desktop software that helps comic book fans organize their comic book collection. Here’s a feature list from their site:

  • 100% completely FREE software
  • Download titles and issue information directly from our servers
  • Wish List with instant desktop notifications of availability
  • One click issue selection. Little or no manual data entry
  • Up-to-date comic book market valuation information
  • Comparative comic book shopping
  • Collection and wish-list reporting
  • and even more

Just in case you missed it, let me repeat it for you: 100% completely FREE software. A sleek, handy, and generally easy-to-use software designed with serious comics collectors in mind. But there’s also a lot of other stuff in there for people who buy comics for the reading experience and who just want to organize their measly collection like me. You can organize your comics by cover title, publisher, writer, artist, character, and even story arc! Crazy!

This entry is part 1 of 12 in the series Weekly Haul

weekly haul 1

Before I explain that X-Week isn’t what you think it is (you perv), let me just bore you with the recent developments within the confines of this blog (you know Baddie doesn’t have a life when all developments he can report are about his blog).

While I was starting development on the new UPLB MASS Online this past week, I discovered a few new cool stuff in K2 (my WordPress theme, not the company I work for) in its latest release, version 0.9.5. I decided to upgrade my K2 0.9.1 installation with this mother. I won’t go into details, but I fucked up my blog big time. Good thing I managed to backup my database and my files right before I did the upgrade. Nevertheless, things are back to normal. Well, actually I’d like to think things are better now with my new links page, which I dubbed “Black Holes“, and my new and really neat archives page, which I dubbed… umm… “Archives“. Yeah, I ran out of clever space-related words.
