Before we get down to business, let’s all point at Ade and laugh because he answered a meme on his blog. Why is it funny? I don’t know. I just want to laugh at the guy.

Anyway, yeah. The asshole tagged me with the meme that asks “What are the five things you want to have in 2008?” Simple enough question, right? WRONG! After getting an iPod touch for Christmas and buying a 160GB external hard drive last week, I had a hard time coming up with five things I want to have in 2008. I thought long and hard, and here’s what I came up with:

wii on an ipod

Playing Wii on an iPod: NERDTASTIC!

A Wii. I’m still extremely in love with my PS2, but having another gaming console in the house wouldn’t hurt, right? Especially if it can help me burn some fat. God knows how much I’ve been slacking on keeping myself in shape. If I’m going to work out, might as well have fun doing it. Of course, going to the gym and seeing sweaty hot ladies working out is also an attractive option.

I’ve been watching a lot of movies lately on HBO, Star Movies, and even Cinemax. I’m re-watching some movies in my DVD collection as well. And with the discovery of a new “movie buddy”, I’m starting to get my movie theater groove back. So, to celebrate this rekindled love for movies, I present to you three short reviews of the movies I recently saw:

lust, caution

Scorched Earth

“Scorched earth”. Destroying anything that might be useful to the enemy. The elimination of the enemy’s resources and possibly even one’s own. In my case, it’s the latter.

The enemy is Depression. I usually fall into a deep, dark, and lonely hole at least once a year. Usually weeks before my birthday, and I don’t know why. This year, it came several weeks late.

After recent bouts with feelings of abandonment, betrayal, alienation, neglect, loneliness, and “My life has no direction and I’m thirsty for beer!”, Depression finally kicked in. And I believe seeing Click on HBO may have been the catalyst for the other shoe to drop.

This entry is part 4 of 10 in the series Top 5 Lists

Before I became a comic geek, I was first a couch potato. OK, I still am, but not as zombie-like as before. I choose my shows now. And by “choose”, I mean “look for the Jack TV or HBO or AXN or Star Movies on”. Seriously, TV has become a mentor to me, teaching me things like sex, love, and bad grammar. Although, I think I can live without it now, with all the Interwebs shit and all. But there will always be TV shows that would always keep me coming back in front of the devilish tube.

#5: 24 - Initially, it was all about Elisha Cuthbert. I surf other channels when it’s not her scene. But eventually, I discovered the pure awesomeness of Jack freakin’ Bauer! I mean, seriously. I thought MacGvyer and The A-Team kicked ass, but Jack Bauer will eat them for breakfast! And then Sydney Bristow for lunch. Afternoon delight, yo.

#4: Smallville - This is the only TV show that I’m collecting on DVD. Well, so far. I currently have Seasons 1-3, and I can’t wait to get Seasons 4 and 5. It has everything. Hot chicks, special effects, humor, adventure, and dozens of easter eggs for comic book geeks. Never been a fan of the Superman mythos, but this show changed my mind. I’d take this over any of the Superman movies any day.

I have been deprived of cable TV for 5 days a week since I moved to an apartment in Ortigas. Well, that’s less than 5 since I get the pleasure of cable TV whenever I go home to Sta. Rosa on Friday nights. Nevertheless, Monday up to Thursday nights, I’m stuck with network TV. At first, I always had the urge to cry because I miss Jack TV a lot. And HBO. And AXN. And the National Geographic channel. And FTV. But as the weeks progress, network TV’s starting to grow on me. Case in point: I now have a network TV viewing habit. And here’s how it goes:

When I’m lucky enough to get to the apartment early, I eat my dinner while watching Kris Aquino’s amusing Deal or No Deal? show. Yes, I find it very amusing to see the dreams of regular Juans and Juanas crumble right in front of me while I munch on my pork loin from Grill Queen. After that, it’s a tug-of-war between Super Inggo, Captain Barbell and Atlantika, and Studio 23 shows (but I only stick with them on Tuesdays because it’s Smallville night. I gotsa have my fill of Lanaliscious!). And then there’s the very entertaining Starstruck. Again, I delight in the fact that one by one, the dreams of young hopefuls wither and die in front of me while I’m sipping a glass of my precious Coke on the rocks. Ahhh… tastes like shattered dreams.
