Hi. My name is Gino, code name: Jack Baddier. I’m here in my room, waiting for the Sandman to put me to sleep. By the way, I’m not talking about the mythical creature. Sandman is the codename of one of my fellow agents in a top secret government organization. He’s going to inject me with a serum that will induce sleep. After weeks of not getting enough rest, I can finally lay down on my bed and sleep fo… what the fuck?! Now why the hell is that dog barking?! Dammit. But before I find that out, I need to know first which of our half dozen stupid dogs is barking.

This entry is part 11 of 12 in the series Weekly Haul

drinky crow

Just call me Drinky. I’m slowly putting a stop to this weekly comic book addiction. Well, not actually stopping it. More like controlling it. I’m trying to limit my comic book purchases to Php1,000 a week. Maybe after that, I can totally remove weekly hauls. But that doesn’t mean I’m quitting comics altogether. I just need more beer money.

In line with this mission, I’m not picking up new monthlies and even minis. I’m planning to just go for the trades. And maybe just a few can’t-miss monthlies. As a testament to my loyalty to this mission, I managed to stay clear of DC’s Countdown, which is the company’s follow-up weekly series to 52. Yay for me!

Anyhoo, on to this week’s haul. With SPOILERS, as usual.

52 dc comics

One year. 52 issues. 52 weeks. And it all comes to a head with the psychedelic return of DC’s Multiverse. I don’t know what to say.

DC’s weekly series, 52, finally ends this week. I can’t believe I stayed on for all 52 issues. There were some totally awesome issues and scenes, but there were also some sucky episodes and WTF moments. All in all, it was a fun ride. But I won’t go through another weekly series again. Yeah, I’m skipping Countdown. Why? I need more money for beer and videoke battles. And probably for my future kids’ college fund.

With that totally wussy statement, I end my weekly love affair with the whole DC universe. And since I missed two (count ‘em, two!) Weekly Haul posts, this is going to be a long one. Three weeks worth of comics, coming up! With SPOILERS on top!

This entry is part 3 of 12 in the series Weekly Haul

weekly haul #3

It’s been such a busy news week in the world of comics, thanks to the New York Comic Convention 2007, I don’t know where to start. DC elaborated on its new and upcoming weekly series, Countdown. It will immediately follow DC’s current kick-ass weekly series, 52. Countdown will mainly focus on 5 storylines: Jimmy Olsen’s, Mary Marvel’s, the search for Ray “The Atom” Palmer, 2 villains forced to work together, and most probably Darkseid kicking everybody’s ass. It will also serve as a “spine” for the whole DC Universe for a whole year as it reflects what’s happening everywhere in the DCU in “real time”. Sweeeet.

Over at Marvel, they’ve got big plans for the fallout of Civil War, which ended this past week. The Initiative will span the whole Marvel Universe and will introduce a host of new heroes and villains. Other than a new Fantastic Four, a superhero team per American state, and Tony Stark being the new director of S.H.I.E.L.D., Marvel fans will be treated to another interesting piece of smashing Marvel goodness: the Hulk’s return. In World War Hulk, the jade giant will be hunting down the douchebags who sent him to space, and I hope he smashes their puny heads like grapes. I can’t wait.
