A Very Baddie Thanksgiving 2010

Well, I’m definitely not thankful for my knack for coming up with the dumbest blog entry titles ever. And for that, I apologize. This blog entry isn’t for apologies, though. This blog entry is reserved for the things I am thankful for. I know we don’t really do Thanksgiving here in the Philippines, but I’m a citizen of the Internet and we do whatever the hell we want on the Internet. If you’re not down with that, I have 3 words for you:

As the animated gif suggests, I am a big fan of Conan O’Brien, so that’s why I’m thankful for Coco being back on TV. I’ve discussed my feelings and thoughts about his triumphant return to the small screen, so let’s move on.

My 15 Favorite Moments in Conan’s First Week

Today, Conan O’Brien finishes his second week on his new TBS show “Conan”. That’s why it’s time to take a look at his first week. I know it doesn’t make sense, but hey, it’s the Internet. Anyhoo, so far, I like what I’m seeing.  Somehow, “Conan” feels like a marriage between The Tonight Show and Late Night with Conan O’Brien. Everything feels bigger and more prestigious, plus he has a wider audience now, which Conan had in his short Tonight Show run. But things are more relaxed and, well, very Conan-y. The main thing I love about Conan is his self-deprecating humor, and now that he’s on basic cable, which is more or less a demotion for someone who just came from network TV, he is seemingly once again the underdog. This means self-deprecation-based hilarity galore! I may have mourned the passing of The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien, but I didn’t think for a second that it was the end of the road for Conan and his trusted sidekick, Andy Richter. With that said, I think Conan’s first week back was awesome. Not groundbreaking, but awesome nonetheless. Here are my 15 favorite moments from his first week:

7 Magnificent Moments in the 62nd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards

My current TV watching habits are limited to news programs and Discovery Travel & Living, which is now known as TLC. So forgive me if I don’t care much about most of the results of the recently concluded Primetime Emmy Awards. However, I did find some moments of the show very amusing.

Born to ROCK.

That opening skit was definitely the highlight of the show. You got Fallon, Fey, Lynch, Hamm, the Glee kids, that chick from the Vampire Diaries and Hurley singing and dancing and letting everyone know that it’s not going to be the same old dull awards show from years past. It just set the tone for the rest of the night. Well, at least for the entire Comedy section of the awards.

The Late Shift 2: Electric Boogaloo

It’s the end of an era. An era that only lasted 7 months and 3 weeks. The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien is no more, thanks to NBC bringing back Jay Leno to his old time slot, forcing Conan to quit and leave. This makes me sad. And angry. But mostly sad.

I’ve been a fan of American late night TV ever since I saw the 1996 film The Late Shift. Based on a book by Bill Carter, the movie follows the EPIC struggle between Jay Leno and David Letterman to inherit the legendary Tonight Show from Johnny Carson. I was just fascinated with the politics and the drama and the beauty of shattered dreams. That extremely controversial moment in TV history was truly special. And you know what they say about history, right? It frickin’ repeats itself.
