Volume 2

If you're new here, you may want to add some dickery to your feed reader by subscribing to my RSS feed. High five!

I’m settling in my new job quite nicely. Well, actually it’s not new anymore. I’ve been there for almost 2 months now. I’m also getting a hang of living in the big city, traffic hell and all. But it still feels like I’m in a transition stage. Everything just feels so new. Horizons getting bigger. Old limits fading away, new limits popping up from nowhere. It’s fun! With this transition stage, I feel I also need to move forward with this blogging thing. Thanks to the people of the Pinoy Blogoshpere Yahoo! Mailing List, I’ve found a new kind of hunger for blogging. And this hunger drove me to create another blog, Baddieverse. And what will happen now to LongBox? It’s time to re-imagine it. It’s time for an era to end. It’s time for Volume 2.

LongBox is now a comics-centric blog. I’m going to let my inner comic book geek talk about comics, movies related to comics, TV shows related to comics, comic book industry news, comic book and graphic novel reviews, and everything else there is to blog about sequential art. Baddieverse will contain my usual stupidity. Hehe.

This “Database Error” that keeps happening on this blog for the last few days is irritating the shit out of me. It’s the most annoying thing when you’re ready to go with your wacky ideas about a blog entry, only to find out that your blog is currently inaccessible because of a stupid database error. I’m seriously considering getting my own domain and a paid hosting service. I’m just a few error messages away from totally leaving free hosting behind. I swear, kids, the first chance I get a long break from work, I’m gonna get me my own domain and a paid hosting service. Gggggg!

Anyway, since I lost my wacky ideas while waiting for my current host to get its crap together, I’m just going to give you a recap of my week. Hooray!

I finished Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, probably the greatest comic book-based video game ever. Ever. It was freakin’ awesome to kick Galactus‘ ass and to slap around Dr. Doom. Doctor freakin’ Doom! Geek overload, man. Geek overload.

Manny Pacquiao versus Erik Morales. All the hype boiled down to a 3-round boxing match. I wish Rey Mysterio got into the action and gave Manny a 619. And a hurricanrana. And a triple corkscrew moonsault from the top rope. And a chair shot to the face. That would’ve been cool.

I settled in my new apartment along Ortigas Extension. The traffic can become hell sometimes. And I’m acting like the giddy naive “probinsyano” that I am every time I commute. I mean, I haven’t commuted in years! You’re thinking “Oohhh. Poor little rich jerk. Doesn’t know how to commute ‘coz he’s always running around in his RAV 4 and shit.” It’s not that I don’t know how to commute. I’ve just forgotten how dangerous it is to ask directions from total strangers every chance I get. Every. Chance. I. Get.

One good thing about having an apartment near where I work is I can go out with friends after office hours. I got to watch Casino Royale with an old friend. I don’t know if it’s just me not being able to watch a movie in a cinema for weeks, or if it was the company, or if Casino Royale just totally kicked major ass. I mean, I was never a James Bond fan, but after watching Casino Royale, I can’t get the James Bond theme out of my head. I kept fighting the urge to stick to the wall, sneak around corners, and hum the Bond theme on my way to the comfort room.

Speaking of kickass movies, I just purchased a DVD of X-Men: The Last Stand. Can’t wait to have an X-Men movie marathon. Yes, I’m lonely like that.

I think I may get the chance to put one of my “online masterplans” in motion after being invited into a mailing list for Pinoy bloggers. I’ve been thinking of doing it after I get my own domain, but I think the sooner I get it out of my system, the better. Here’s hopin’.

That’s my week. Yes, that’s as exciting as it gets for me these days. Cue the “Loser” song by Beck. I deserve it. Ggggg.

The Weird

Got hit by a blog meme by Shona. It’s about 9 weird things about me. Why 9? Why not?

It’s hard, actually. After all, you have to think of things that are just normal for you but not for most people. You have to think like other people. Like normal people. It becomes hard when most people also exhibit their own little eccentricities. It becomes harder when even your own friends aren’t really normal. Hahaha! But seriously, everybody’s weird in their own little way. And a select few are just purely retarded. And to be P.C., I’d just like to call them “special”. Hehe. And now for the weirdness:

  1. I find chicks (baby chickens, not hot human females) creepy.
  2. I enjoy the tranquility of being in a big crowd, and the noise of being alone.
  3. For me, professional wrestling is still real.
  4. The best conversations I have are with myself.
  5. I actually think a lot of people read this crappy blog.
  6. I believe in winged unicorns.
  7. When everybody loves a certain song, I tend to hate it.
  8. I refuse to kiss girls wearing lipstick, lip balm, or lip gloss.
  9. I have the mutant ability to hide my mutant ability.

And just for fun, 10. I harbor ill will towards the following:

Well, I hope you’ll still want to be my friend after reading this. I’m now off to spread the meme to 9 other weirdos.

Origin

I’m back in the strange and sick world of the Blogosphere. I’ve been blogless (new word!) for a month now. This is not the first time. Before, it was voluntary. I shut down my past blogs or simply abandoned them for a short period of time just because I was having my tantrums about life. Silly, I know. But this time, I’ve been blogless because of elements beyond my control. My previous host did a data and server migration, apparently for a couple of days only. But the “couple of days” turned into a week. Then a couple of weeks. And next thing you know, I’m creating another blog because my Consolidated Crap blog is lost in server-migration limbo. Enough of the sad intro. Time for the real origin story.

I have more funds now for my comic book geekity (new word!). I’m now visiting my favorite comic book shop almost every week, whereas before, it was just a monthly deal. And comic books, basically, is the inspiration for this new blog. Stupid, yes. But it’s my blog. So, piss off! Anyway, a longbox is… well… a long box where I keep my most valuable comic book issues. Long story short, this blog is where I keep my personal issues about life and all whatevers inherent to it. Brilliant, eh? Mwehehe.

Now, for a brief recap of the past month (excluding the afformentioned host fiasco):

  • I saw the third installment of the X-Men movie franchise. Twice. Just because of that scene after the credits. Bwahaha! The critics slaughtered the movie, but I absolutely love it! And just for the record, Movie Kitty Pryde is so adorably cute! Not hot, but cute nonetheless.
  • With all the big comic book events last month like the end of DC Comics’ Infinite Crisis and the start of Marvel Comics’ Civil War, it’s a good time to be a comic book geek. I’ve also started reading DC’s 52 series (weekly!). I’m a very geeky comic book freak right now. And I won’t have it any other way.
  • I set up a personal webserver on my PC. Yup. I successfully installed the latest versions of Apache, PHP, MySQL, and PHPMyAdmin on my PC. I am now playing around with the latest versions of content management systems like Xoops, Joomla, and PHP-Fusion, and also WordPress. I’m also remotely debugging and testing yUPieLBi.com. Together with the latest versions of Photoshop and Dreamweaver, I have my very own web development workshop in my room. I guess I’m trying to keep my ComSci spirit alive. Not using it much in my job.
  • I went to the beach for the second time this year for our company outing. I don’t know why, but Laiya, Batangas holds a very special place in my cholesterol-ravaged heart. After the outing, I unfortunately got sick. It caused me to miss work for three days. And since I didn’t get a medical certificate for those three days, my salary will get a significant beating this month.
  • Being the impatient prick that I am, several weeks of not publishing these stupid stories and experiences was torture. So I came up with a brilliant idea: make a new blog! Genius!

And that’s it for this blog’s stupid origin story. Baddie, out!
