baddie 2007

2007 is drawing to a close, and you know what that means. Yep, it’s time for the obligatory Year in Review post. I did it last year, and I guess it’s just appropriate to do it again this year. I’m about to summarize my 2007 and I might get all reflective and emo and shit on your ass, so if you don’t want to read inane drama right now, get out. GET OUT WHILE YOU STILL CAN! Also, I’m gonna do this by month. I’m OC like that.

Friday morning while at work, I started preparing my new account at Page.ph for the eventual yupielbi.com migration. Since the connection at the office was like a snail on downers, backing up all yupielbi.com files was a whole day affair. Backing up the database was also a pain. But I managed to finish everything before the end of the workday. Yay!

At home, I did another backup of the files and the database. I’m OC like that. Thankfully, the connection was pretty okay so I got the chance to dick around the web a lot while doing the backups. Around midnight, I started the whole migration thing. It took me almost 10 hours to set up yupielbi.com, now yupielbi.org, at the new host. Complete with updating all relevant links on several sites and services, including Friendster, Feedburner, Google Analytics, Technorati, etc. It was all worth it. I needed to get away from Philhosting.net as soon as possible. The frequent downtimes were simply unacceptable.

This entry is part 5 of 10 in the series Top 5 Lists

I spend an average of 8 hours a day on weekdays online. During weekends, it can range from 4 to 12 hours, depending on how my social life is faring. It’s fairly obvious that there are websites that are regular stops for me in the information superhighway. And you’re about to meet them. Just to be fair, for my top 5 list of my favorite websites, I’m not going to include my blog. Yeah, the one you’re reading now, dummy.

#5: WWE.com - Being a fan of WWE, it follows that I always check out their official website. When I can’t resist (almost each and every time), I look at spoilers for Raw and Smackdown! After reading it, I’ll pretend that it just didn’t happen. I’m weird. Also, it helps that I can get official announcements about events and Superstars on the site. It gives me the feeling of intense fandom membership. Yay!

#4: Newsarama - What can I say? I love comics and I love news about comics. And what better site to deliver comics news than Newsarama? The community is a tightly knit group of creators, journalists, critics, and fans. I visit the site every day, although I don’t participate in the forum section a lot. Actually, I think I’ve just posted a couple of messages on a couple of threads, and that’s it. I suck.

Last Friday, I suffered from LBM very early in the morning. It happens to me quite a lot and I often always go to work, hoping for the day to zip by like the Flash on a caffeine high. But my gums were swollen, thanks to these stupid braces. That, the LBM, plus the idea of going through 2 hours worth of traffic forced me to call in sick for the first time during my 4-month tenure in my job. The silver lining? I got to rest all day and fantasize about going home. At around 9 pm, I was feeling OK already, so I took off and flew to UPLB for the last night of the UPLB Fair 2007. Home.

I was smiling while driving all the way from Sta. Rosa to UPLB. Yes, I’m a nutjob, but one more reason for the crazy smile en route to a mountain was the fact that I was going to see faces I haven’t seen for several years already. Once I arrived, I went straight to the booth of my infamous academic organization, UPLB MASS. Seeing new faces in that booth and greeting old friends just made the rest of the world go away. I totally forgot that there was a stage right in front of us with Datu’s Tribe and other bands performing. I also missed the yUPieLBi.com AVP that they showed on the projector.

That’s one of the two AVPs. Here’s the other one. Good thing we have them on YouTube.

One Year Later

yupielbi year one

Exactly two years ago from today, I opened eLBi, the UPLB Forums. It was a product of idle time, internet curiosity, grand aspirations, and nostalgia for my college years. And oh yeah, I got tired of the egos I constantly encountered within my former online hangout. And I was too lazy to join other similar online communities. Yeah sure, there probably is another intelligent online community out there that interests me, but sadly, I was too lazy to search for it. I built one instead.
