If you're new here, you may want to add some dickery to your feed reader by subscribing to my RSS feed. High five!

It’s been a little over two weeks since Google unleashed their very own browser, the shiny Chrome. Like all new browsers or new versions of existing browsers, I downloaded it to take it for a spin. Unlike with the other browsers, though, I stuck with it after a couple of days.

It may have had a major hype within hours after its release, but most of it was justified. A home page that’s pretty handy. The Omni Bar that’s so simple but extremely helpful. Brilliant tab abilities. Built-in Google Gears functionality. Heck, even the logo had its own buzz. It’s all nifty.

But with all the awesome things about Chrome, I just can’t find myself completely switching to it from Mozilla Firefox. One word: ADD-ONS.

Dear Mr. Technology,

Hi. I’m Gino Carteciano and I’m a big fan. In fact, I took up Computer Science as a sign of my devotion to you. I’ve been mostly happy with you and your almost magical wonders, but recently, I’ve been getting harassed by your failures that are quite simply irritating and frustrating. I think I’m starting to hate you and everything closely related to you. Well, except the Bionic Woman.

Yeah, you got me. I don’t know anything about poker except that it’s a card game and it’s tremendously more appealing when the word “strip” is involved. I’ve always wanted to learn how to play poker, but I never get the chance. Something always comes up like…

  • I’m not in the mood.
  • I’ve got better things to do like, say, drink beer using two hands.
  • People around me are smelly.
  • That leprechaun who lives under our oven toaster keeps telling me gambling is evil.
  • It’s Tuesday.
  • I’m writing blog articles nobody reads save for a couple of homeless people I pay to read my blog in Internet cafes.

But I think the right time has come for me to learn how to play poker. And I know exactly where to start: Pokerstars.net.

This entry is part 8 of 10 in the series Top 5 Lists

For this post, I’m going tech geeky on you folks. I’ve been in love with WordPress and its multitude of plug-ins ever since I first tried to be cool by creating my own WordPress-powered blog. So for this Top 5 Lists post, I’m going to give you my top 5 favorite WordPress plug-ins. Yeah, the stuff that the blogger in me can’t live without.

#5: Admin Dropdown Menu - It may seem useless at first, but when it’s crunch time and you need to go to a lot of different places in your WordPress administration panel, Admin Dropdown Menu saves you a lot of clicks and time. Seriously, it makes using the admin side a lot more easy and efficient.

#4: WordPress Database Backup - Another seemingly “redundant” plug-in since you can just go into whatever software you’re using to manage your database to back it up, but like Admin Dropdown Menu, this makes things easier. You can do the backup right in the admin side and you can choose which tables you can backup in addition to the core database WordPress tables. Sweet.

This entry is part 1 of 10 in the series Top 5 Lists

I love lists, and this is why for 10 blog posts, I’m going to share my top 5 lists of stuff. And I’m going to start with my Top 5 applications on my Windows machine. Yeah, Windows can suck in hundreds of ways, but beggars can’t be choosers, right? Well, unless when I’m at work where I use a Mac. Mmmm… a Maaaac.

#5: Yahoo! Messenger - These days, I won’t be able to live without an Internet connection (OK, that’s an exaggeration, but you know what I mean), and I can’t have my Intarnetz without Yahoo!’s instant messaging client, Yahoo! Messenger. It serves as my primary form of communication with friends, co-workers, and creepy strangers. Being on the Internet just looking at porn sites can be so lonely, so an occasional chat (or even a whole day conference) with friends can make the emptiness of cyberspace a little bit warmer.

#4: EditPad Lite - This is a free text editor that I use as a Notepad replacement. I don’t do a lot of (OK, I don’t do any) programming on my Windows machine, so I just use a text editor as a “buffer” for ideas and a container where I dump seemingly useless text that may become useful as I go about my business. EditPad Lite has a lot of features not present in Notepad, but its tab feature alone makes it worth the quick download for me.
