Slick Trailers for Men In Black 3 and G.I. Joe: Retaliation

G.I. Joe: Retaliation

I have The Glitch Mob remix of the White Stripes’ Seven Nation Army on repeat all morning thanks to the first G.I. Joe: Retaliation trailer. I can’t say I’m more excited to see it than I was with the first Joe movie because there’s no Baroness, but hey, it looks a bit less cartoony. It features The Rock, TV Wonder Woman That Never Was, Bruce frickin’ Willis and Fat Channing Tatum. So far, it looks like there’s no goofy comic relief guy. Just the way I like my goofy movies based on ’80s cartoons.

5 Awesome Moments from Tekken: Blood Vengeance

Tekken: Blood Vengeance

I’ve always been a sucker for cut scenes in video games, so Tekken: Blood Vengeance is pure eye candy for me. It pretty much has all characters looking like their video game selves and it’s such a treat to see them in a story that basically echoes the video game mythos. Unlike that Americanized live action bastard Tekken movie. I like it for the action but man, it just wasn’t Tekken-y enough. I mean, every time I see Live Action Heihachi, all I could think about is “Dude, that’s Live Action Shang Tsung.”

The Avengers Trailer Commentary

The trailer for The Avengers — the only movie coming out in 2012 as far as I’m concerned — has been unleashed and the Internet has exploded! Even if the trailer contains a lot of scenes we’ve already seen via official promo images or crappy unofficial photos, the fact that it’s the trailer for the biggest Marvel movie so far is enough to give people a multiple-hour fangasm. If you haven’t seen it yet, what’s wrong with you?

And now, here are the scenes from the trailer that caught my attention:

The Avengers Trailer - Army

These army boys look like they’re shooting at either something that’s flying (a Skrull ship, maybe?) or something that’s really huge. Judging from the lasers in the latter part of the trailer, it’s probably a ship.

3 Reasons Why We Need More Movies Like Zombadings 1: Patayin Sa Shokot Si Remington

Zombadings 1: Patayin Sa Shokot Si Remington

AWAAARD!

I went to see Zombadings 1: Patayin Sa Shokot Si Remington expecting an honest-to-goodness Filipino zombie movie. In this particular aspect, as a rabid zombie movie fan, I was mildly disappointed since it barely contains actual zombie action. Other than that, I think it’s a brilliant film that needs to be the opening salvo of a new age of entertaining and commercially successful Filipino movies. We need more movies like it and I can give you 3 reasons why.

1. It’s an indie film with mass appeal. When was the last time that a Filipino indie movie outshined other movies from big studios (local and foreign)? The amount of buzz at the malls — not just in the cinema areas — made me scratch my head in awe. “What the hell is going on here?” I asked myself. And then I saw the film and I was like “Ohhh.” I can’t remember the last time I went to the restroom after seeing a movie and heard dudes raving about the film like they just saw a leaked version of the Avengers movie (FROM THE FUTURE!) or something. We need more Filipino movies that generate buzz and genuine excitement within all classes. Filipino indie films was never my niche so when something like this wrangles my attention, I know that it’s not your usual pretentious project from the indies.

Stubby Movie Reviews: Super and Superheroes

This entry is part 13 of 15 in the series Stubby Movie Reviews

I don’t know why but I decided to watch 2 movies about ordinary people dressing up as superheroes to fight crime and help people, but I did. Here’s what I think of Super and Superheroes.

Super

Super

Believe it or not, Rainn Wilson does a really good job at playing a sad and disturbed dude — who is also a total whack job. I mean, before your brain even decides on how hard you’ll laugh, you’re already thinking that this dude is nuts. Not funny nuts, but he’s-going-to-murder-me-when-I’m-in-the-shower-I-just-know-it nuts. Ellen Page turns up the crazy too by channeling the Joker and Stephanie Brown Robin at the same time. WITH X-23′S CLAWS. It’s violent and disturbing and it makes you doubt your own psychology because you constantly evaluate your reaction to various scenes of madness and sadness.
