All-New All-Different Marvel - All-New All-Different Avengers #1

Behold! The All-New All-Different Marvel Universe!

Gino Carteciano Comics Leave a Comment

In October, the Marvel Universe will somehow emerge from Secret Wars as an all-new all-different Marvel Universe. We’re going to get 45 new #1 comic book issues that will feature both relaunched and brand new titles. Here’s a full list of all 45 titles including their creative teams and my all-important (no, not really) thoughts on this all-new yet still very familiar Marvel Universe.

All-New All-Different Marvel - All-New Hawkeye #1All-New Hawkeye #1

Writer: Jeff Lemire
Artist: Ramon Perez

Is this Kate Bishop Hawkeye vs. Old Man Hawkeye? Not sure but what I’m sure of is Jeff Lemire is great, so I’m on board. I still miss Fraction though.

All-New All-Different Marvel - A-Force #1A-Force #1

Writer: G. Willow Wilson
Artist: Jorge Molina
Cover Artist: Victor Ibanez

I’m so glad they’re bringing this title over from the current Secret Wars book. The whole concept of female superheroes running the world while taking names sounds badass. I’m also looking forward to seeing more Dazzler in the MU.

All-New All-Different Marvel - Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. #1Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. #1

Writer: Marc Guggenheim
Cover Artist: Mike Norton

The current Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. series is an entertaining string of done-in-one stories. I hope they keep this format in the new series.

All-New All-Different Marvel - All-New All-Different Avengers #1All-New All-Different Avengers #1

Writer: Mark Waid
Artists: Adam Kubert and Mahmud Asrar
Cover Artist: Alex Ross

If there’s one book that carries the banner of the all-new all-different Marvel U, it’s this book. Diversity is obviously a big selling point for this book and that’s awesome, but I’m picking this up mostly because I’m a fairly new Mark Waid fan thanks to his Daredevil run and Mahmud Asrar is one of the newer Marvel artists that I really like.

All-New All-Different Marvel - All-New Wolverine #1All-New Wolverine #1

Writer: Tom Taylor
Artist: David Lopez
Cover Artist: David Marquez

Here’s another creative team that floats my boat. Taylor’s Injustice: Gods Among Us run made me a believer and Lopez’s work on X-Men and Captain Marvel makes me look forward to him drawing Laura in Logan’s blue and yellow costume.

All-New All-Different Marvel - All-New X-Men #1All-New X-Men #1

Writer: Dennis Hopeless
Artist: Mark Bagley

It’s good to know that the time-displaced X-Men are still running around after Secret Wars. It’s also great to see X-23 — sorry, the All-New Wolverine — still hanging out with them. It’s kind of a bummer to not have Young Jean Grey in the mix though.

All-New All-Different Marvel - Amazing Spider-Man #1Amazing Spider-Man #1

Writer: Dan Slott
Artist: Giuseppe Camuncoli
Cover Artist: Alex Ross

I am not a fan of the new costume design but I’m pretty happy with what Dan Slott has been doing on the Spider-helm for the past few years, so I’m willing to give this a shot. I am also looking forward to some Spider-Mobile shenanigans. Make it happen, Slott!

All-New All-Different Marvel - Angela: Queen of Hel #1Angela: Queen of Hel #1

Writer: Marguerite Bennett
Artists: Kim Jacinto and Stephanie Hans
Cover Artist: Julian Totino Tedesco

This sounds… weird. But it’s the good kind of weird. I think.

All-New All-Different Marvel - Astonishing Ant-Man #1Astonishing Ant-Man #1

Writer: Nick Spencer
Artist: Ramon Rosanas
Cover Artist: Mark Brooks

The Beetle has been very amusing in all of her appearances so I’m glad to see her here. I’m hoping this is Nick Spencer bringing over some of his Superior Foes of Spider-Man supervillain magic to Scott Lang’s world.

All-New All-Different Marvel - Captain Marvel #1Captain Marvel #1

Writers: Tara Butters and Michele Fazekas
Artist: Kris Anka

I love the fact that I live in a world where the ladies who run the Marvel’s Agent Carter TV show are also writing Captain Marvel.

All-New All-Different Marvel - Carnage #1Carnage #1

Writer: Gerry Conway
Artist: Mike Perkins
Cover Artist: Mike Del Mundo

I will never understand why Marvel keeps publishing comics starring Carnage, but most of them aren’t bad, so I guess I don’t have a problem with this?

All-New All-Different Marvel - Contest of Champions #1Contest of Champions #1

Writer: Al Ewing
Artist: Paco Medina

Aside from this title being based on the mobile game of the same name developed by Kabam, it makes no sense to me. Will the Maestro survive Secret Wars only to become the main villain of a mobile game tie-in? I hope not.

All-New All-Different Marvel - Daredevil #1Daredevil #1

Writer: Charles Soule
Artist: Ron Garney

Looks like we’re going back to a darker Daredevil. Is he getting a sidekick who looks a lot like Gambit but is not actually Gambit? Is Matt Murdock moving back to New York? I guess with the super awesome Netflix show existing, it was only a matter of time before we got a darker, more moody Daredevil again.

All-New All-Different Marvel - Deadpool #1Deadpool #1

Writer: Gerry Duggan
Artist: Mike Hawthorne
Cover Artist: Tony Moore

I guess he’s not dead anymore.

All-New All-Different Marvel - Doctor Strange #1Doctor Strange #1

Writer: Jason Aaron
Artist: Chris Bachalo

YES. If Aaron can do to Strange what he did for Thor, I’m all in. Actually, I’m already all in because Bachalo is perfect for the dark and weird world of Doctor Strange.

All-New All-Different Marvel - Drax #1Drax #1

Writers: CM Punk with Cullen Bunn
Cover Artist: Ed McGuinness

CM Punk is basically writing about Batista.

All-New All-Different Marvel - Extraordinary X-Men #1Extraordinary X-Men #1

Writer: Jeff Lemire
Artist: Humberto Ramos

I can’t believe we haven’t gotten an X-Men book with “Extraordinary” in its title yet until this one. It sounds perfect. What I really like most about this new title is Jeff Lemire and his confessed love for the X-Men. If you talk about how you love the X-Men, regardless of who you are and what you do, I am instantly your fan forever.

All-New All-Different Marvel - Guardians of the Galaxy #1Guardians of the Galaxy #1

Writer: Brian Michael Bendis
Artist: Valerio Schiti

If that’s Kitty Pryde under the Star-Lord mask, I’m both pleased and annoyed at the same time. On the one hand, I would love to see Kitty and the Thing in the same team being led by a talking raccoon. On the other hand, I want my Kitty in the company of her X-Peeps, dammit!

All-New All-Different Marvel - Howard the Duck #1Howard the Duck #1

Writer: Chip Zdarsky
Artist: Joe Quinones

I love how Zdarsky and Quinones make fun of this entire relaunch thing that Marvel has been constantly doing in the past few years. That cover perfectly captures some fans’ frustration with the endless relaunches without sounding mean. This criticism/joke is totally valid too since the current Howard the Duck series was launched all the way back in March 2015 (less than 4 months ago).

All-New All-Different Marvel - Howling Commandos of S.H.I.E.L.D. #1Howling Commandos of S.H.I.E.L.D. #1

Writer: Frank Barbiere
Artist: Brent Schoonover

I hope the actual book is as rad as the concept because the concept is pretty rad.

All-New All-Different Marvel - Illuminati #1Illuminati #1

Writer: Josh Williamson
Artist: Shawn Crystal
Cover Artist: Riley Rossmo

Is that blurb a knock on DC and their supervillain-focused crossover event Forever Evil? Probably not. Anyway, The Hood is back!

All-New All-Different Marvel - Invincible Iron Man #1Invincible Iron Man #1

Writer: Brian Michael Bendis
Artist: David Marquez

The poster boy of the All-New All-Different Marvel Universe seems to be Iron Man and his redesigned suit. It kind of looks iffy to me but maybe it’s because I’m still in love with his Superior suit.

All-New All-Different Marvel - Karnak #1Karnak #1

Writer: Warren Ellis
Artist: Gerardo Zaffino
Cover Artist: David Aja

I guess the only way to seriously put out a book starring Karnak is if you have Warren Ellis as the writer.

All-New All-Different Marvel - Ms. Marvel #1Ms. Marvel #1

Writer: G. Willow Wilson
Artists: Takeshi Miyazawa and Adrian Alphona
Cover Artist: Takeshi Miyazawa

That is definitely my favorite preview image from this All-New All-Different lot. Those facial expressions are priceless! I’m probably going to pick up this issue just for that cover.

All-New All-Different Marvel - New Avengers #1New Avengers #1

Writer: Al Ewing
Artist: Gerardo Sandoval

I don’t know much about this book but I like Sunspot and Songbird, so I might try it out.

All-New All-Different Marvel - Nova #1Nova #1

Writer: Sean Ryan
Artist: Cory Smith
Cover Artist: Humberto Ramos

Not a big Nova fan so I’ve got nothin’ on this one.

All-New All-Different Marvel - Old Man Logan #1Old Man Logan #1

Writer: Jeff Lemire
Artist: Andrea Sorrentino

One of the things that really make me look forward to the end of Secret Wars is the existence of Old Man Logan and the Maestro in the All-New All-Different Marvel Universe. For once, Marvel is telling us that “Everything changes!” and they really mean it this time. Except for Howard the Duck who is just getting a new hat.

All-New All-Different Marvel - Sam Wilson, Captain America #1Sam Wilson, Captain America #1

Writer: Nick Spencer
Artist: Daniel Acuña

I wonder why Sam’s name needed to be in the title. We don’t have a Jane Foster, Thor book or a Tony Stark, Iron Man book. The last time we had a character’s real name in the title was Miles Morales: Ultimate Spider-Man. Is it because they’re people of color? Or is it just me overthinking comics?

All-New All-Different Marvel - Scarlet Witch #1Scarlet Witch #1

Writer: James Robinson
Cover Artist: Kevin Wada

James Robinson has been hit-or-miss for me, but mostly miss. His recent runs on All-New Invaders and Fantastic Four just fell flat for me. KEVIN WADA COVERS THO.

All-New All-Different Marvel - Silk #1Silk #1

Writer: Robbie Thompson
Artist: Stacey Lee
Cover Artist: Helen Chen

I feel like Silk isn’t getting the attention she deserves especially she was introduced around the same time as Spider-Gwen and we all know how it all became about alternate universe Gwen Stacy after that. I’m glad Cindy Moon will still be here after Secret Wars. Her interacting with Peter Parker is always amusing.

All-New All-Different Marvel - Spider-Gwen #1Spider-Gwen #1

Writer: Jason Latour
Artist: Robbi Rodriguez

It’s crazy that we’ve already seen several versions of Gwen Stacy since she died 4 decades ago but none of them captured the hearts and minds of fans quite like the Spider-Woman of Earth-65. Even people who don’t usually read comics know who she is. That costume is really, really good.

All-New All-Different Marvel - Spider-Man #1Spider-Man #1

Writer: Brian Michael Bendis
Artist: Sara Pichelli

Speaking of alternate universe Spider-people, Miles Morales is about to take over EVERYTHING. People want him to be in the new Spider-Man movies. People want him in cartoons. Now we’re getting him as Spider-Man (1 of 2 Spider-Men, to be accurate) in the main Marvel Universe. Pardon the pun, but this is AMAZING.

All-New All-Different Marvel - Spider-Man 2099 #1Spider-Man 2099 #1

Writer: Peter David
Artist: Will Sliney
Cover Artist: Francesco Mattina

It’s cool that there’s still a 2099 title in this new Marvel Universe and it’s still being written by Peter David. I’d rather see him doing another run on X-Factor with Madrox, Layla, and the old gang, but this will do. I also like the redesigned costume.

All-New All-Different Marvel - Spider-Woman #1Spider-Woman #1

Writer: Dennis Hopeless
Artist: Javier Rodriguez

Ohohohooo I can’t wait to find out what that cover’s all about. Is Spider-Woman really pregnant or is this one of those temporary “she looks pregnant because she has Brood babies inside of her just like that one time with Kitty Pryde” deals?

All-New All-Different Marvel - Squadron Supreme #1Squadron Supreme #1

Writer: James Robinson
Artist: Leonard Kirk
Cover Artist: Alex Ross

Seeing Thundra always brings me back to when I was just starting to read comics. She was in the issues of Avengers that I read while I was trying out different titles to see which ones I would stick with. This was back in the ’90s so seeing Thundra always feels like seeing an old friend you used to hang out with in your room as you read comics and listened to Nirvana. I can’t say I care about the rest of these guys, though.

All-New All-Different Marvel - Star-Lord #1Star-Lord #1

Writer: Sam Humphries
Artist: Javier Garron
Cover Artist: Dave Johnson

I guess Foreigner is in Star-Lord’s Awesome Mix Vol. 2.

All-New All-Different Marvel - The Mighty Thor #1The Mighty Thor #1

Writer: Jason Aaron
Artist: Russell Dauterman

That blurb, “The flesh may be weak but the thunder is strong”, is my favorite blurb from this lot. Aaron on Thor is one of the best things in Marvel — nay, IN ALL OF COMICS — in the past few years and I’m looking forward to more of it.

All-New All-Different Marvel - The Totally Awesome Hulk #1The Totally Awesome Hulk #1

Writer: Greg Pak
Artist: Frank Cho

It’s great that Greg Pak is writing a Hulk title again and Frank Cho’s art is always a  treat, but I’m not completely sold on this whole concept. It looks like the new Hulk is a teenager… from the ’90s?

All-New All-Different Marvel - The Vision #1The Vision #1

Writer: Tom King
Artist: Gabriel H. Walta
Cover Artist: Marcos Martin

I’m looking forward to all the Marcos Martin covers because that dude is amazing. I’m also pretty excited to read this series because the idea of Vision creating a wife and two kids then living in the suburbs to live a normal life sounds so weird and interesting to me. I can’t wait for Grandpa Ultron’s visit!

All-New All-Different Marvel - Ultimates #1Ultimates #1

Writer: Al Ewing
Artist: Kenneth Rocafort

Galactus is a member of an actual team — with Miss America. I mean, wow. I can’t wait to see America get in the big guy’s face! Also, I like that they’re using the “Ultimates” name in the new Marvel U. (R.I.P Ultimate Universe)

All-New All-Different Marvel - Uncanny Avengers #1Uncanny Avengers #1

Writer: Gerry Duggan
Artist: Ryan Stegman

Steve Rogers might just as well be herding super powered cats with this roster. It just looks like they were picked randomly from all corners of the Marvel Universe. This could either be a disaster or one of the most fun titles in the post-Secret Wars universe.

All-New All-Different Marvel - Uncanny Inhumans #1Uncanny Inhumans #1

Writer: Charles Soule
Artist: Steve McNiven

Aside from being in Uncanny Avengers, the Human Torch is also in this title. The Thing is in Guardians of the Galaxy. There’s no sign of Mr. Fantastic and the Invisible Woman anywhere. This makes me nervous. It just feels so weird that we’re doing all this without a new Fantastic Four book. Anyway, Beast is also here. That is also weird.

All-New All-Different Marvel - Uncanny X-Men #1Uncanny X-Men #1

Writer: Cullen Bunn
Artist: Greg Land

I never really got into the whole Psylocke and Fantomex thing, but I’m always up for some shenanigans with Magneto, Sabretooth, and Mystique. One thing that’s missing from these new X-titles — at least at this point — is the school aspect of the X-Men. We have time-displaced teenagers on a road trip, an almost classic lineup in a new extraordinary flagship X-title, and a bunch of ex-X-villains with Psylocke. The school has to be a part of one of these books, right? Also, Emma Frost.

All-New All-Different Marvel - Venom: Spaceknight #1Venom: Spaceknight #1

Writer: Robbie Thompson
Artist: Ariel Olivetti

Not sure about this one but I always enjoy Ariel Olivetti’s art.

All-New All-Different Marvel - Web Warriors #1Web Warriors #1

Writer: Mike Costa
Artist: David Baldeon
Cover Artist: Juian Totino Tedesco

This is the 7th Spider-book in this new crop of comics. Well, 8th if you count Venom: Spaceknight. I like that this book exists mostly because we can’t get enough Spider-Gwen and also, SPIDER-HAM FOREVER.

Even with a bunch of books focusing on Spider-People, mutants, Inhumans, and Avengers, the All-New All-Different Marvel Universe is still a pretty diverse universe. I can’t wait to see how the Inhumans and the mutants got to this point where they seem to have been thrown into the same soup. I can’t wait to see more of Spider-Ham, Spider-Gwen, Galactus, Miss America, Howard the Duck, Miles Morales, and Thundra.

I haven’t enjoyed a Marvel event in a very long time but Secret Wars is killing it. And for the first time in a long while, I can’t wait for an event that I love to end just so I could see what happens next. It’s just so refreshing to genuinely feel excited for what comes next. Now all we need is a last minute announcement of a new Fantastic Four book and we’re golden.
