I’ve read wonderful news about all 3 of these books from FanExpo 2011. Alpha Flight is now an ongoing series, Marvel will be releasing a 5-issue mini-series in 2012 called Destroyers and the JSA will still be around after the DC Reboot. Internet high five!
So far, I’m enjoying Alpha Flight by Greg Pak, Fred Van Lente and Dale Eaglesham. First of all, I’ve been a fan of Dale Eaglesham ever since I saw his work on one of my favorite DC books, Justice Society of America. He’s just doing wonders on Canada’s super-team.
Let’s not forget about the new and exciting world that is being built by Pak and Van Lente. I loved them in Incredible Hercules and I still love them in Alpha Flight. The Canadian superheroes have never been this cool and interesting as far as I’m concerned. This is why I’m ecstatic about the announcement that the current mini-series will continue on as a monthly series.
Here’s another project by Fred Van Lente that is making my geek juices flowing. The concept of Destroyers is that some of Marvel’s monstrous heroes will be teaming up to fight a horde of new creatures. The team includes Beast, A-Bomb, She-Hulk, The Thing and Devil Dinosaur. Any comic book that has monster fights is an automatic buy for me. I am very easy to please.
Finally, we have news about the Justice Society of America. I’ve been pretty upset about the absence of the JSA from DC Reboot news in the past couple of months and I was afraid that this legacy-based super-team might be shelved for years. I was also worried that I won’t be able to see Nicola Scott’s fantastic artwork in my comics ever again. In one fell swoop, an announcement from FanExpo took care of my worries. The JSA will still be part of the new DC Universe after Flashpoint and Nicola Scott will be drawing them!
They won’t exist in the main DCU, though. They will be running around the brand new Earth-2. But as long as they keep the concept of the JSA being a team that is all about legacy, I’m all for it. That’s the reason why they don’t fit in the new DCU in the first place. There’s one thing that bothers me about this announcement, though; James Robinson will be writing. He’s always been a hit-or-miss writer for me but I guess I’ll just have to hope that he won’t screw this up.
Overall, that was an awesome set of news from FanExpo 2011. Another Internet high five!

It's good that they're making Alpha Flight a monthly series. Is Northstar there? He's no longer with the X-Men?
Yes, Northstar is in the book. But he doesn't want to be there which makes things more fun. Heh.
Northstar is such a pain, lol.
