Treasure Chest of Text Files from 2006

I bought a 1TB external HDD a few weeks back and I’m still in the process of backing up my files into that sweet, sweet black box. In this process, I take a look at all my files and decide which ones I should protect from being accidentally deleted by my clumsy hands or from being destroyed forever by fire caused by the inevitable alien invasion. Those files I feel should be protected are copied from my laptop, Luna, to my 1TB external HDD, Trudy. Those files that aren’t as important are deleted to make room for more garbage. Today, I explored a folder named Notes. It contains text files from 2006, the year I started blogging “seriously”.

Back in early 2006, I had several blogs. There was one that contained my reviews of movies, TV shows and books. There was one that contained the poems I wrote back in high school. And then there were the multiple iterations of my personal blog. I maintained several blogs at a time and eventually, I consolidated all of them into a single blog. And then I made more. And then I consolidated again. The cycle continued until late 2006 when I established Baddieverse, which is more or less the same blog you are reading right now. One of the text files contained a list of all my blogs that existed before Baddieverse – and there were a lot. Most of them are now gone, but some of them are still up. This “graphic” is still on one of those defunct blogs:

This is why you shouldn’t ask me for blog name suggestions.

I took down all of my articles and replaced it with a single page with this image. It was the first time I consolidated multiple blogs into one personal blog. As you can see, the extent of my Photoshop skills back then only involved setting background colors and using different fonts. I continued using graphics to tell people that I’ve shut down a blog and moved on to another until I created Baddieverse. Currently, this blog reeks of dickery. Of course, I do write emotional stuff from time to time, but generally, I don’t sound like a 15-year old girl. Back then, however, I was very dramatic. Check out my first description of Baddieverse which I found in my Notes folder:

The Baddieverse. I could come up with a dramatic reason to post entries on this blog like “Cosmic conspiracies. Evil schemes of reality. Cruel jokes of life. Fate’s constant bold attempts to screw me over. The universe wants to constantly punk me. Baddie against the world. And all I can do is blog about it.” But who am I kidding? I’m not “emo”. I just want to blog, dammit! I just want to open up a portal from everybody’s world into my own little pocket universe. The Baddieverse. So there.

I want to punch myself from 2006. As you can see at the top of this blog, right below the title, I came up with a shorter and less dramatic description for Baddieverse. My Notes folder also contained the first version of my About page. I know my current About page is corny, but the first version of it was incredibly embarrassing and, ultimately, sad. I’m not going to post it here. Just look at my current About page and imagine there are song lyrics sprinkled all over it. Yeah, it was that bad. You know what else is bad? One of the files in my Notes folder contained this poem:

Paano nga ba malilimutan
ang isang prinsesa
na ang tanging kasalanan
ay ang magmahal?

Paano nga ba malilimutan
ang isang kaibigan
na ang tanging hiling
ay huwag maiwan?

Paano nga ba malilimutan
ang isang ngiti
na ang tanging hatid
ay isang mundong makulay?

Paano nga ba malilimutan
ang isang pangalan
na ang tanging alaala
ay isang matamis na nakaraan?

It’s in Tagalog, so I’m sorry, people who can’t understand the language. I will take comfort in knowing that some of you will not find out how cheesy and horrible this is. The name of the text file is Ewan, which is “I don’t know” in English. I assume that’s the title of this poem. I don’t really remember. I’m not even sure why I wrote it and if I have shown it to anybody before . The contents of the text file Black Book of Ideas, however, are definitely unpublished — until I wrote this blog entry, of course. This text file contains these words and phrases:

  • Confessions
  • Multiplicity
  • Funeral
  • My Utopia
  • If I Were a Vampire
  • Day after Doomsday
  • Daydreams
  • For Whom the Bell Tolls
  • Calliope
  • Ice Water
  • 100 Rounds of Untraceable Ammo
  • Wrath of God
  • Man in Power
  • Save and Destroy
  • Roulette
  • Who are you?
  • lonelygirl15

These are ideas for blog entries. When I was new to blogging, I liked listing down ideas and titles that I would like to use in future blog entries. These days, I just wing it. I still write down ideas, but I get rid of them if too much time has passed without me actually writing the blog entry. I remember why I put some of these items on the list and it makes me cringe.

The other text files contained announcements I made in the online community I used to run. Most of them were about downtimes, site errors and updated forum posting rules. Another text file contained a list of usernames and passwords of my old email and website accounts. I deleted it. It’s never a good idea to write down your passwords in a single piece of paper or a text file, kids. You’ll never know where it might end up. I’m keeping most of the other text files for future bouts of nostalgia.

I hope you enjoyed this lengthy and totally unnecessary look into my old text files from 2006. I most certainly didn’t. I also hope that 5 years from now, I won’t be writing a blog entry called Treasure Chest of Stupid Blog Entries from 2011. But I probably will.
