Today, I celebrate the 3rd anniversary of my Tumblr blog. When I signed up for Tumblr in August 2007, I didn’t know what to do with my brand new Tumblr blog. For the first two years, I just used it to promote my blog entries from the blog you’re reading now, my defunct comics blog, my defunct Plurk themes blog and my defunct emo blog. I didn’t really use it to post stuff until April 2009.

STEVE HOLT!
It didn’t take long for me to start creating niche blogs for Dr. Doom, villains, lesbians and more. Of course, it also didn’t take long for me to shut them down and just do Tumblr blogging from one blog. The first few Tumblr blogs I followed were those of people from UPLB. It was Twitter on steroids and I loved it.
I made new friends and I may have gained a couple of fans along the way, which blows my mind because FUCK YOU I’M RETARDED. But seriously, who knew posting images of Dr. Doom, Poison Ivy, LOLcats and my stupid face would help me build online relationships with a variety of amazing and weird people? I became a part of the vibrant Filipino and comics Tumblr communities. It was awesome.
I loved how Dashboard Coincidences blew our minds. I was amused by people’s reactions to celebrity deaths, natural disasters and Kanye West. I enjoyed picking fights with dumbasses and pretentious dicks. I won those fights, by the way. Because I only engage in online arguments with people who I know are dumber than me. That’s how I entertain myself. I appreciated the actual fun discussions and back-and-forths via reblogging. There was a genuine feeling of Blogging For Fun And Engaging In Dickery With Smart People While Still Appreciating Art, Music And Literature camaraderie. There was a real sense of community.
I don’t know where it all went sour, but Tumblr isn’t as fun as it used to be. I don’t know if it’s Tumblr’s growing popularity, the fact that most of the first people I followed are no longer active on Tumblr, or something else. I don’t know. Tumblr just feels depressing and cold and it’s full of animosity now. I just wish we could bring back the fun, playful and friendly atmosphere we used to have. I wish we could have fun reblogging conversations again. I wish I could bake a cake filled with rainbows and smiles and we could all eat it and be happy. I started a War on Avocados and a bunch of people joined in and we actually had fun, for goodness’ sake. It seems we don’t know how to have fun on Tumblr anymore. Sadface. This is all Facebook’s fault.

I LOVE AVOCADO!
Let's make a cake out of rainbows and smiles, Laserwolf Deathplosion!
