10 Things I Learned from Where the Wild Things Are

I just saw Spike Jonze’s movie adaptation of Maurice Sendak’s classic children’s story. I expected to laugh my face off because hey, we’re talking about a cast mostly composed of giant ugly Muppets here. Surprisingly, the mascots from Hell didn’t take me out of the story. I very much enjoyed this whole wild rumpus of a movie.

Also, I learned a few things from watching it and I’m going to share these wild lessons right nnnnnnnNOW!

1. Good times never last but you can have as many as you like.

2. It’s all fun and games until someone steps on someone’s head.

3. Things and people change. But mostly people.

4. No matter how permanent something seems to be, eventually, it’s going to die. Like the sun. And the remaining Beatles.

5. There will always be people who will helplessly fall for your bullshit. Always.

6. You can pretend to be a wolf or the king of all you survey, but ultimately, you’re just a kid with issues running away from everything.

7. You’re in charge of your own happiness and, sometimes, other people’s misery.

8. Sometimes, you just have to surrender to your inner Wild Thing to escape and be free.

9. Everybody can hear you but only some of them will listen. You should throw dirt clods at their faces.

10. You shouldn’t eat your friends. Unless they’re open to the idea.

But seriously, I just love how the movie took me back to a more innocent time in my life where no idea was too crazy and the world was my infinite playground. It may seem depressing, but it’s a good way to take a break from everyday grown up stress, especially now that it’s the holiday season.

It’s Christmas, bitches! Relax! Let your inner Wild Thing out! LET THE WILD RUMPUS START!
