Contemplating on Moving Back to Laguna

Recent realizations (I choose not to elaborate) made me contemplate on leaving our Pasig apartment and moving back to our house in Sta. Rosa, Laguna. A recent change in Pasig’s traffic rules (more on this later) made me seriously think about making the move. Of course, this is a personal blog, so I’m obliged to share the details of my brooding shenanigans. Maybe writing about it will give me a better understanding of my dilemma.

I wonder if Baddie notices that he never ever solves a problem by blogging about it.

THE PROS OF MOVING BACK TO LAGUNA

Free food and rent. Come on. It’s our house. My parents wouldn’t even think of charging me for my meals and the use of my own room. But I think I just gave them an idea. Dammit.

Wireless Internet access. One thing I sorely miss when I’m at the apartment is the Internet. Don’t get me wrong, I’m online the whole day at work, but I can’t dick around as much as I want when a lot of sites are blocked. I terribly miss torrenting shit every night too.

The comfort of my own room. I have a bed at the apartment, but it’s just a mattress on the floor. It’s sooo college, right? Our apartment doesn’t have air-conditioning which is a total bummer when it’s crazy hot. And let’s not forget the roommate. What good is a sexy roommate if she doesn’t have sex appeal? Haha! I’m kidding. It’s an inside joke. But it’s true.

Cable TV. I don’t really mind not having cable at the apartment because 1) I’m not that interested in TV anymore and 2) I have a lot of TV shows and movies on Luna (my laptop) to keep me entertained all night every night. But still, I do miss flipping through HBO, Star Movies, ANC, AXN, Jack TV, Discovery and NatGeo before going to sleep.

Color Coding Scheme? What Color Coding Scheme? Recently, the geniuses at Pasig City Hall decided to bring back the color coding scheme. This is a dick move as far as my selfish self is concerned. This brilliant move forces me to be late on Fridays since I’m not allowed to drive around between 7 and 9 am, and I’m supposed to be at the office by 9 am. I go home to Laguna every Friday night so no, I will not leave my car at the apartment on Fridays because that would require me to go back there in the evening to get my stuff before going home. Thanks a fucking lot, Pasig government. If I move back to Laguna, though, I can borrow our other car on Fridays and the government can’t give me shit.

THE CONS OF MOVING BACK TO LAGUNA

SLEX traffic. I have to endure the hellish traffic jams all over the Southern Luzon Expressway to and from work. I depend on Molesto (my iPod) and sometimes the radio (Mike Enriquez is an awesome guy) to keep me sane when I’m driving on Monday mornings, but sometimes, traffic is just way too stressful.

Limited beer time. Right now, I can go out, get shitfaced and not worry too much about waking up early the next morning. Moving back to Laguna will require me to wake up at least one hour earlier so I can make it to work on time. This will prove problematic when I decide to get stupidrunk on a weeknight. But I’m thinking it’s not that big a deal since I only get stupidrunk on a weeknight once a week at the most. Also, I’m trying to force myself to cut down on beer nights to save money and be a better man (thunder and lightning).

The roommate. I may have made fun of her earlier on this post, but I’ve grown fond of her. I’ve never had a female roommate before and the last time I had a roommate, I was still in college. 5 years ago I think. The other two people living in our apartment are swell people too. I guess living with them reminds me of college (they’re also from UPLB) and I totally appreciate anything that gives me that good ol’ UPLB warm and fuzzy feeling.

The loss of the wonderful feeling of independence. Everybody who lives with their parents knows what I’m talking about. No matter how old you are, if you’re living with them, you still have to follow their rules. And for someone who is an occasional alcoholic and who is turning 28 soon, this can cause problems occasionally.

Nosy people. I will once again endure the pain of explaining to people why I’m driving a total of 3-4 hours a day from Laguna and back. Why can’t they just leave me alone? WHY?!

CONCLUSION

5 points each for pros and cons. Looks like there’s still no conclusion. I guess I’ll have to come up with a decision the way I usually do: get drunk, ask for advice from drunk friends, let a flip of a coin make the choice for me and commit to it. Sounds like a plan.

So about this roommate of yours….

  2. Joel Avatari says:

Why not maintain the apartment so you can crash there anytime you like?

  3. Sarah says:

Huh. Very valid points. But, personally, the daily time wastage gets more points. So I say stay there in Pasig. Who knows, maybe you just have to get used to the color coding scheme. But if you don't, then pack up and move back in. :)

Cons outweigh the Pros. TV? Too much money will be spent on gas + travel time. Lugi. Get na new car.. or plate.

  5. Baddie says:

@Pau: My roomie's a girl so, you know. You wouldn't be interested.

@Joel: Pay rent for a place that will only act as a spare bed? I don't have that kind of money to spend.

@Sarah: Thanks for the insight. When it comes down to it, it's travel time vs. money saved. I just have to figure out the winner.

@Mangpogs: Riiiiight. Lugi if I move back so I'll just go ahead and BUY A NEW CAR.

well, i think SLEX traffic weighs more than anything. how could you even deal with that everyday?

with pasig, you only get hassled every friday. why don't you just get a better internet at home and a cable tv.

  7. I like this post. You're funny :)
