One night, three movies. I was bored.
Push is like a really nice episode of Heroes. It may be a tad confusing for ordinary fucking people, but for comic book people like me, I got the entire “We were born with special abilities and now we must survive in a world of ordinary fucking people” schtick even before the first scene was done. Yes, I appreciated it, but not entirely. Even comic book people can be confused by shaky plots. Maybe the presence of Camilla Belle made the whole thing go down a whole lot easier that it could have.
If there’s one thing I love more than people with special abilities, it’s people who commit high treason to bring down Hitler’s Germany. Valkyrie starts out as a snorefest with unnecessary moody scenes, but as soon as the first attempt on Hitler’s life is made, it becomes a compelling piece of WWII storytelling. It wouldn’t have worked though if Tom Cruise didn’t have an awesome ensemble cast backing him up.
Now, if there’s one thing I love more than mutants and traitors, it’s porn stars. OK, maybe not. I do love Zack & Miri Make a Porno. It has the perfect balance of “Aww that’s nasty!” and “Aww that’s so sweet!” scenes. It’s not one big pile of LOLs, though. There’s a lot of really funny shit, but I found myself being totally annoyed during some of the scenes. Weird. But I’m not surprised since that’s how Kevin Smith always makes me feel.
All in all, last night was a pretty good night of movies for me. And now, I shall get a life. Later, fools!
