DVD Library #14: Mean Girls

This entry is part 14 of 17 in the series DVD Library

mean girls week

To open this totally fabulous Mean Girls Week, I think it’s just appropriate that we start with a review of the Mean Girls DVD. Yes, I got weird looks when I bought it. No, I’m not gay (not that there’s anything wrong with that). I’m just an admirer of this often misjudged modern classic based on a self-help book for parents with no narrative whatsoever. Also, I have a thing for hot girls in pink.

The Story: I don’t understand how some people loathe this movie. The mere mention of it inspires disgust and word vomit (Mean Girls reference!). I mean, it’s a complex dissection of adolescent behavior. Sure, it’s presented in an over-the-top manner, but there are lessons to be learned here, especially for the younger crowd. It should also give parents some insight into the treacherous world of High School. It is based on a self-help guide for parents, after all. Aside from being a decent teen life deconstruction, it’s also one of the smartest teen comedies in film history. Probably even the best of them all. Can’t expect anything less from Tina Fey who handled the screenplay. Yep, I love me some Tina Fey, yessiree.

mean girlsThe Eye Candy: Are you kidding me? I’ve got the hots for Lindsay Lohan ever since I saw her on The Parent Trap. She didn’t even have boobs then. Add the decently hot Rachel McAdams, Lacey Chabert, Amanda Seyfried, and the aforementioned Tina Fey and that’s eye candy times 5, bitches!

The Actors: Brilliant casting all around. Awesome performances by Lohan, Chabert, and Seyfried plus killer support from some Saturday Night Live cast members equals a solid comedy treat. But I think the star of the show is McAdams. She hit it right out of the ballpark with her queen bee character. You’d never think she’s 10 years older than The Lohan.

The DVD Extras: It has the usual stuff like outtakes, making-of featurettes, and deleted scenes. I particularly like the featurette where Rosalind Wiseman, the author of Queen Bees and Wannabes, talks about her book and her cause. Fascinating stuff even for a non-parent like me.

I hope at this point, the naysayers reading this are already considering not reacting like skanky pretentious ho-bag bitches whenever they come across this gem of a comedy. If not, well BOO, YOU WHORES!

    You stay away from my future kids, ya hear?

  2. Baddie says:

    Ade, if your future kids are to be redhead twin girls, I can’t promise anything.

    Speaking of twins, whatever happened to Lindsay’s twin in that movie? I loved her British accent there.

    Finally, someone who is not me also thinks LiLo is hawt! Apir tayu jan!

  4. CM says:

    It was both Lindsay Lohan in The Parent Trap.

    A friend suggested I watch this instead. It (surprisingly) stars Lohan in another masterpiece by Robert Altman. I wouldn’t know yet cos I have to see this film and that Mean Girls one.

  5. Baddie says:

    @Steel: APIR! RAKENROL! \m/

    @CM: Both… Lindsay? NO. WAY. No way! There were scenes with both of them on screen! You’re trippin’.

    @LOLga: This is the first time I’ve heard of that Prairie thingy. I have shamed my LiLo fanhood. :(

    @Pau: Korek ka jan!
