I’ve been watching a lot of movies lately on HBO, Star Movies, and even Cinemax. I’m re-watching some movies in my DVD collection as well. And with the discovery of a new “movie buddy”, I’m starting to get my movie theater groove back. So, to celebrate this rekindled love for movies, I present to you three short reviews of the movies I recently saw:

Lust, Caution – Pretty cinematography and a unique twist to erotica. It was too long, though. Got annoyed with the long, awkward, silent emo scenes typical of Asian dramas. But then, there was the awesome and unsettling scene where the resistance guys killed a fascist dude. And of course, the sex scenes. It all balanced out. I’m almost ready to forgive Ang Lee for his emo Hulk.

30 Days of Night – Haven’t read the graphic novel yet, so I’m not commenting on how faithful the movie is. I’m just gonna say that for a vampire gorefest, it’s OK. Love the look of the vampires and how the movie didn’t really explain where they came from. I don’t really like vampire/zombie movies that spend too much time explaining why these monsters exist and how they came to be. If it’s a vampire/zombie movie, I just wanna see people running and screaming and blood splashing all over the place. And that’s how this movie slithered it’s way into my heart. <3 And speaking of “slithered”…

Slither – Stumbled upon it the other night on Star Movies and I was surprised that it’s actually awesome. Sure, it’s somewhat goofy for some horror purists, but hotdammit its over-the-top goofiness works! I mean, come on. Slimy alien B-movie one minute, zombie apocalypse-ish HOLY-FUCK-THIS-IS-AWESOME film the next. Also, there’s this woman who got really, really, REALLY fat because of the alien worms inside her.

Awesome.
