A Cold-Blooded Love Story

Earlier today, Euri forwarded a link to me on YM. It’s a link to a video (embedded on this chick’s Multiply site) featuring two house lizards and the tragic end of their romance.

The video is a Shera flexy board ceiling panel commercial from Thailand. The ad is a lot of things. It’s whimsical (come on, two lizards sharing a passionate hug?). It turns into a suspenseful adventure thriller as one of the lizards tries to save its lover from falling into a sinister chess board after the ceiling panel they’re on starts to crack and rip apart. And it finally turns into an awkward mix of hilarity and tragedy. It’s a beauty.

This made me think about Philippine TV ads. Where are the commercials that stir emotions? Where are the commercials that pluck at your heart strings one second, and send you into a laughing frenzy the next? I know there’s a lot of creative juice flowing within the local advertising veins, but I’m barely seeing drops of them on TV. Or maybe I’m just not watching network TV enough. Meh.

Speaking of TV, I’ve shown you the funny and tragic. Now let me show you the funny and stupid.

who wants to be a superhero?

Yeah. I caught the latter half of the first episode of Stan Lee‘s Who Wants to be a Superhero? reality TV show on Jack TV. It’s stupid. So stupid, it’s funny! And I like funny. So I like this stupid show. *sigh* Don’t you just love TV?

  • Haha! I love that add. It’s romantically gross.

  • That ad cracked me up. I thought at first it was a creative short film. But when plywood started popping up, I laughed my ass off realizing it was an advertisement. And, it was gooood! I hope something like this would come out of our local screens though. I haven’t had a good commercial laugh for years.

  • @Euri: And thanks for bringing the gross into the Baddieverse!

@Aja: You can say that again, brother!

  • The video was awesome. We’ve got some awesome commercials in local TV too. I’m just too lazy to think up of one. Also, we’re reaping loads of advertising awards in almost every international advertising festival.

  • @Ade: Yeah. There was a time when I used to enjoy watching local commercials. Now, almost everything is either straightforward marketing or just pure eye candy. Great Pinoy commercials are too few and far in between. =(

  • @ Ade ~
That’s because Filipinos are born creative. :)
(And I’m not included since I am only a Filipino by citizenship. XP)
