Comic Collector Live
Comic Collector Live is a desktop software that helps comic book fans organize their comic book collection. Here’s a feature list from their site:
- 100% completely FREE software
- Download titles and issue information directly from our servers
- Wish List with instant desktop notifications of availability
- One click issue selection. Little or no manual data entry
- Up-to-date comic book market valuation information
- Comparative comic book shopping
- Collection and wish-list reporting
- and even more
Just in case you missed it, let me repeat it for you: 100% completely FREE software. A sleek, handy, and generally easy-to-use software designed with serious comics collectors in mind. But there’s also a lot of other stuff in there for people who buy comics for the reading experience and who just want to organize their measly collection like me. You can organize your comics by cover title, publisher, writer, artist, character, and even story arc! Crazy!
It runs on the .NET Framework so boohoo for you Steve Jobs acolytes. The installation process is as smooth as your butt cheeks when you were a year old. On your first run, you’ll need to log in so make sure you sign up on their site first. After logging in, you go straight to organizing your collection of old comics with characters only you can remember. Their database of titles is pretty comprehensive, but there’s still a number of titles on my collection that I didn’t see in their catalog. Also, there’s no need for setting preferences because for now, there are none. It’s still in beta so not all features are available.
One such unavailable feature is the Live Market. I assume that’s were all the buying, selling, and rating will happen. Duh. And once the Live Market goes… umm.. live, more data about the comics in your collection will be available. It’s a hardcore comics collector’s dream.

This is a very promising software not only for fans, but for the whole comic book industry as a whole. With Hollywood‘s lust for comic properties in full swing, major media outlets setting their sights on big comic book events like Marvel’s Civil War, and the big bookstores seriously bulking up their “graphic fiction” sections, the hobby of comics collecting is quickly gaining steam. And Comic Collector Live will be there to give everyone a sleek and shiny helping hand. Aww.
