If you're new here, you may want to add some dickery to your feed reader by subscribing to my RSS feed. High five!
Ever wonder what websites Baddie visits regularly? Which blogs are on his feed reader? Where he goes when there’s nothing else to do online? Assuming your answer is an eager “hell yeah!“, you’re in luck. I’m going to let you in on my web surfing habits in five parts. For the first installment of Baddie Bookmarks (I thought of the title all by myself), I’m going to tell you where I regularly get my news.
Digg. Where the comments of Diggers are usually more interesting than the news itself. I usually read the Science, Technology, and Offbeat News categories. I leave the rest of the categories alone. I’ve read a lot of very interesting “news” on Digg, and I’ve discovered a lot of cool websites as well. But there are times that it’s just irritating, especially when almost all news submissions are about a single topic like when the Wii was released, when James Kim went missing, and when Digg itself was plagued with controversy involving top Diggers allegedly gaming the system.
Original Signal. For a quickie look into what’s happening around the web, especially all things Web 2.0, I go to this here site. I usually just browse the Web 2.0 signal. No interaction here, just pure feed goodness. If you’re too lazy to dick around NetVibes or Google Reader, this is where it’s at.
NetVibes. For world news, I turn to NetVibes. I get the feeds from top news outfits like CNN, Reuters, and BBC, and also from specialized news sources like Time, GMANews, and National Geographic. People say Google Reader is better with more features, but NetVibes is much easier to navigate, especially when you have a lot of feeds. I’ll take easy navigation over tons of bells and whistles anytime.
I’m a very simply guy with very simple needs when it comes to news. I read what interests me. I don’t have the hunger for every breaking news that comes down the pipe. I’m more than likely to read an article about invention patent than, say, Britney Spears‘ shaved head. That’s why I don’t go to a few sites for my news. I take them all in, digesting whichever has the most striking headline. I’m lazy like that.
