Ella

Hellooo, Ella! Before I get giddy and giggle like a school girl about the release of WordPress 2.1 (codenamed “Ella”, after jazz vocalist Ella Fitzgerald), I’d like to tell the boring story of how Ella arrived just in time to help me out with fusing my LongBox posts into Baddieverse.

LongBox was initially my personal blog. Wanting to try out “niche blogging”, I turned it into a blog about comic books and comics-related media, at the same time creating this stupid Baddieverse blog to be my new personal blog.

I reserved all my comics-related posts for LongBox, and as it turned out, I didn’t have enough comics-related posts to keep me interested in maintaining two blogs. I ended up posting a new entry once a week. And for something so boring coming out only once a week, it meant death to traffic and comments. Death, I tells ya! Yes, I finally realized that keeping two personal blogs is a stupid idea. It’s not only stupid, it’s also… well, “stupid” pretty much sums it all up.

So there I was, contemplating on closing down LongBox and moving all my posts there (all ten of them) to Baddieverse. But there was a problem. I’m lazy. There was no automated way I could do it. Sure, I can just copy and paste the posts into Baddieverse, but there were also comments (amazingly enough) posted on some of those posts. Being ego boosters, those comments must also be transported with the posts. What to do? Enter: Ella!

Ella’s timing couldn’t be more appropriate, since she has the WordPress Import/Export feature that lets a WordPress blog export posts, comments, categories, and other stuff to a file, which can then be imported into another WordPress blog. Faaantabulous! But of course, this means I have to upgrade both LongBox and Baddieverse (both in WP 2.0.7 at the time) to 2.1. But curiously, when it comes to dicking around with software, my laziness quietly goes away into a strange black hole, surfacing again in times when I have something really important to do.

Long story short, I upgraded both blogs to 2.1, exported and imported stuff between them, and voila! All my comic book geekiness can now be found here with my regular stupidity and craptitude! Sweeeet. I can go on and discuss what else Ella has in store for you WordPress users who have yet to upgrade to 2.1, but just thinking about it bores me already. The lazy monster has come out of the hole again. I’ll probably talk about Ella some other time. Probably. Maybe.
