First of all, congratulations to you for being Time’s Person of the Year!

Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, we can talk about more important matters. Like, say, my hangover. Man, I just had five bottles of San Mig Strong Ice last night and I was nearly wasted. Several months ago, I can consume four Red Horse Grandes in the course of one night. I guess living in the corporate world made me soft. Less manly. Oh, how I miss those college years. Good times, good times.
Last night was the first ever “reunion party” of our company. A lot of former employees attended and partied with us youngbloods at the M1nt bar at The Fort. It was the first time I attended a party where the venue was closed to other people. Yes, it was just us at M1nt. It was awesome! I feel so probinsyano. Haha!
Anyway, it was very fun. I got to see the strangeness and wackiness (what a wacky word!) of my co-workers. Well, I see it everyday, but it’s different if you fuel it with alcohol and nostalgia. Before last night, I liked my company. After last night, I love it already. I guess it just takes booze to make me love someone or something.
Before the reunion party, we had our Christmas party here at the office. It was just a simple program. Pizza. Soda. Chocolate cake. Exchanging of gifts. Chuckles. And by the way, I got my “exchange gift baby” a Powerbooks gift certificate since it’s on his wish list. And since that’s also on my wish list (well, actually, I wished for a ComicQuest gift certificate), I got a Powerbooks gift certificate too. What goes around yadda yadda. All this Christmas-party-gifts-wish-lists stuff made me realize that I don’t have a real Christmas wish list yet.
I can come up with a list right now which will probably contain an iPod, a CD of The Hives or The Killers or The White Stripes or The Strokes or Bloc Party’s Silent Alarm album, a girlfriend, hundreds of visits on my blogs, and world peace. But I’m not making that list. Because wishing is for noobs!
The best gifts are those you didn’t actually wish for but when you received it, it made you so damn happy. The nicest gifts are the ones you were not expecting. Real surprises. At this point in my life, nothing much surprises me anymore. Making people aware of what you want them to give you for Christmas is boring. It’s playing on the safe side. You want to be satisfied with the gifts you’ll receive, element of surprise be damned. Where’s the fun in that?
If you’re a hardcore gift receiver, don’t make a wish list. Open your arms to the element of surprise! Make gift receiving and giving fun! And if you want the holidays to be more exciting and extreme, don’t give gifts! Give your friends the element of surprise! “Surprise! I don’t have a gift for you! LOL!”
Besides, isn’t being the Person of the Year enough? That’s the greatest gift a person can ever get! Next to world peace, the end of poverty, and a winged unicorn.
And no, all this crap I’ve told you is not just a way to justify the fact that I have not done my Christmas shopping yet mere days away from Christmas. Really.
